2840 storm Auger housing alignment

I have had 2 Troybilt storm 2840's and was responsible in the demise of the first one. I have had a problem with the machine digging into the gravel on one side. I adjusted The black "skids" on the housing and it really didn't fix the problem. I picked the metal "skids" from my first machine and am ready to install them. I noticed that , when standing in the operating position, the auger housing seems to be slightly not parallel to the handle bars. I've looked at the attachment of the housing to the rest of the machine and it appears to be welded. I was wondering about using either a come along, loading straps or a car jack to nudge the housing so it is in line. Any thoughts on my diagnosis or solution? Thanks

Get the manual for the blower. Call Troy if you can't find it. Buy a shop manual for it. Hold off on the caveman tactics. Could be some bolt to turn to align the auger.

That's why I'm switching to a salvaged metal one from my old machine.

Gravel and a 2 stage snow blower is always interesting. How high above the Gravel do you have the skids set? Is the gravel hard packed or loose? If the skid digs into the gravel you may need wider skids.

It's loose gravel. Those kids look interesting. I may give them a try. When I would try to set the skin so that the housing was about an inch off the ground my left hand skid from the operator's position would wear down and that corner would end up digging into the gravel. I'm going to try to get a hold of the manual and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion.

I downloaded both the user manual and the engine manual. Neither show removing anything but the engine shroud, if it exists on my model. Would you mind shooting me the file(s) you are referencing? I understand to what your are referring. I have a lawn vac that started dieseling when I attempted to turn it off after running awhile. Turned out to be a mouse nest in the cooling blades. I will attempt to remove the housing that holds the pull start mech, as that is where the cooling fins s/b? Thanks for the help!

If all the measurements of the auger housing of the 26" and the 28" match, can I swap them? Turns out my second 2840 is a 2610.

Come to find out, my 2nd 2840 is a 2620 troy-bilt. I went a little cave man on the auger housing and it is still a little off. I measured both sides from the center wheel bolt to the beginning of the housing and it is within 1/8". The housing skids still pull to the left. I got most of that out readjusting the opposite skid.. I also used the metal skids from the 2840 and most of the problem seems gone. In a perfect world, they probably should be adjusted the same, but to get it to slide right they are different. At least I didn't have any parts left over!

I was looking for an old 2620 or 2840 to replace the auger housing on my old 2840. Found one on FB for $200. It's only 2 years old, is a 277cc as opposed to 208cc on my old 2840. It has been stored in a garage and only used 12-15 times. I lucked out and will take better care of this one.
