:confused2: 27 hp kaw in 02 Scag Cougar both with 659 hours. Have replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, disconnected safety cutouts, and oil alert shutoff. Now seems to run well for 20 -30 seconds and then :confused2:cutout. I'm going to go out and blow out the fuel lines, have not done this yet.

You say cuts out doesn't stall altogether I just lose power?

Sorry, I was out of town, I came back, installed a new fuel pump, drained the old gas, put in fresh, and it's still cutting out. Most of the time it has plenty of power, but 1/3 of the time it starts up, it has very little power, and requires the choke to keep it running. . . Hope you are still looking at this, Kent county, I guess I am just grabbing anything to try. . .

Could the problem be a bad ignition coil, and how would I check for this. . . It runs most of the time.

I drained the gas tank, and put fresh gas, (it started and ran for a little while after that, so it probably cleaned out whatever was in there, right?) cleaned the air filter, used Amsoil power foam on the carb.

Maybe you have a faulty fuel solenoid. gregjo1948

It ran for awhile with a new carb., now it is cutting out, I start it right up and it cuts out. I don't think it has a fuel cutout solenoid, I am looking at the scag Kawasaki electrical schematic and I don't see anything like that. . . Someone tell me different, but tell me where it is, because it is not on the schematic.

I would run it with less than half a tank of gas (or however much so that it doesn't splash out) with the cap off and see what happens.

before you spend hundreds of $ replacing perfectly good parts, go out & buy a Gunsons Color Tune.
I use mine a lot, in fact I now have 3 of them.
Replacement spark plug with a window in it.
Start the engine and watch what happens, what colour the flame goes and weather there is a spark happening after the engine starts to shut down.
Excellent piece of kit, around $ 30.00
Gunson | Tuning
It wil save you hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars.
Only 2 problems
1) dont put you gob one the top of it and give the engine full revs ( should not be a problem on a mower engine )
2) don't get facinated by it and watch it for hours on end
