25 HP Kohler problems

My mower has roughly 800 hours on the engine. The 25hp Kohler engine is hard to start when cold. It starts fine after it has been warmed up. It is using a quart of oil or more each mowing. It usually taks about 4 hours for each time I mow the lawn.

Any suggestions on the cold starting problem?

And is there an oil treatment that can help with the oil consumption problem?

Thanks

One, give the carb a good cleaning. Two, make sure that the choke butterfly is closing all the way.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Clean the breather assembly by soaking it in a solvent (I didn't say gasoline but that's what I use). Dry it out safely.

Captain, way too much oil loss. Is it smoking or puddling when sitting? Engine wet with oil outside? Plugs fouled? Run a quick compression check if you can.
