20 HP SV810 -3011 wont start

I have a motor wont start. It has spark and I shot some starting fluid in the carb and it wont even try to run. not sure what to look for. If it was a gas problem I would think it would have kicked over with the ether and then stopped, but i am by no means an expert. Any ideas that i can check?

i got it running. it started this morning. i think the engine was flooded and the throttle linkage has a kink in it.
