I just purchased a 1999 Snapper RE EM281019BE from a gentleman on Craigslist yesterday. The mower is in great condition and runs and mows well. Just my luck though, the pin that attaches the steering wheel to the steering column broke today during my first time mowing with it. Fortunately I am only a couple blocks from our John Deere Implement and bought a new pin for $1.02. My problem now is I can not get the broken piece of the old pin removed from the shaft so I can pop the new one in. I have tried pounding it out with a hammer and screw driver, WD40, even tried drilling it out but nothing seems to touch this thing. :confused3: Anyone ever had this problem? Any advice is much appreciated.

I know how you feel that pin will get you mad.
I used a punch or you can cut the handle off the screw driver. Hold it with some vice grips and use a big hammer and pb blast also works better if you can take the shaft off the mower.

With the shaft on the mower it moves when hitting with the hammer.

Or get a very good high speed drill bit.

With the handle on the screw driver it absorbs the impact of the hammer hitting it

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))
