We would have the commercial grasshoppers buying the Toro's the four cycle heavy iron. They would buy fertilizer, lime, fescue and bluegrass, antifungual etc.
My dad's friend, he finally gave a lawnboy a try. It sure was expensive then the regular fours and it made funny high RPM sounds... Years later he did admit that the lawnboy while 60% premium over the other mowers, it sure did outlast 3-4 of them other ones.

You sure are right about Lawn Boys outlasting other mowers.

My first and only brand new mower that I ever bought was purchased about 36 years ago-a 19 inch Lawn Boy model 5247. Yes it was expensive for the time: $231.00!! My Dad showed up as soon as I arrived home with it and immediately berated me for buying "that expensive 2-cycle junk". Dear old Dad has been gone now for 4 years, but that same Lawn Boy still runs. It is now part of a collection of 4 other vintage Lawn Boys that get used regularly. Over the years, I watched all my neighbors go through 3 or 4 new mowers--only proving to me that the 5247 was really not that expensive in the long run.

It's a shame that the original OMC-Lawn Boy Co. no longer exists.

You are right with "OMC-Lawn Boy Co. no longer exists." They were fantastic, yes a little pricey but i feel that you get what you pay for. I used to live in a small college town and i found a Lawnboy somebody threw in a dumpster. Of course i jumped in and grabbed it and i got it running and it smoked a little bit more than it should but i ran it for two to three years. I had another Lawnboy at the time and i would use the "free" one for my high weeds and rough stuff. It did fantastic for a free mower.
