How do you check the stator,and regulator with a meter.

Does any one know, i hate to buy new parts without checking to see if the old ones are bad.Any takers?

Kohler makes about twenty different 18hp engine, which one do you have. Not all charging systems are the same. Without engine model numbers it is very difficult to answer. With them I might be able to get you a service manual.

The model # is CV492S Spec#27506 serial#3106708403 it came off a craftsman with elect. clutch.The stator ohem out.

Thank you so much,i will check the next time i get the chance could not get the other manual to down load.I put this 18Hp kohler on a toro z5000 zero turn with no lights, but it came off of a craftsman mower with lights,would that make a difference on whether it charged or not.

I think the stator is good,but the regulater is bad how do you check the regulater with oham metor.

Could not get computer to down it did not have right software i guess engine man put some pages on here i used,igot 4 regulaters and i dont think all are bad would like to check them if possible imay not have it wired up right.

What is your voltage from the stator???You check that by putting your meter on AC.motor running and putting a lead on each of the out side spades(White & white yellow & yellow)It should read above 28 volts AC at full throttle.What is your voltage at the battery running???It should be about 13.5 to 14 volts DC.I doubt you got 4 bad VR`s.
