Just bought an old 1820 Grasshopper. Having trouble keeping the manual PTO engaged. It will mow great, but then it seems as though the belt stretches and wont stay engaged. I buy a new belt and it will work for about one cut on my acre and half yard and then it happens again. Thoughts?

Grasshopper Mower ~ Products Is belt oem part? Check all pulleys & spindles for wear. Lube spindles as well as entire mower at all fittings.

Thanks for the advice. No, belt is not OEM, I realize that can be a problem but I'm not sure in this case. As you pull up the handle to engage the belt there seems to be a peak where the belt engages and everything is spinning fine, however the handle is not all the way up. When it gets to the top position, the tension falls off the belt just enough that nothing spins. I set a pair of vice grips on the frame to prevent the handle going all the way to the top position and everything stays engaged. There is an adjustment screw on the linkage with the handle but it is already tightened all the way down.
