11hp Briggs and Stratton problems

Hi,

I need some help please,

I was mowing the lawn and the mower stopped, I lifted the bonnet and there was only a small amount of fuel in the tank so I filled it up and tried to restart. The mower wouldn't start.

The engine spins on the electric ignition but makes a popping noise and doesn't kick into life. What would be the obvious things to check? Should I have done any priming or anything after the fuel refill?

First thing to check would be to remove the spark plug, and make sure you have fire. If it has the solenoid on the carb, does it click when you turn the key on and off.

I have a suspicion that it may have dropped one of the valve seats, but that is a little more advanced, so we may have to work on some things first.
