Hi guys,

Just an update. Replaced seals yesterday, very easy. Got new muffler baffle today to replace the broken one. Will finish up tomorrow or Saturday and update.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi guys,

Got seals in no problem.

I must be adjusting the governor incorrectly. I pre-loaded it per service manual, so the "window" is 3-4 clicks to the right of the butterfly when it is wide open and it is facing me. I crank mower, but rpms are only 2750 or so. I turn governor collar to the right , to me that means clockwise. But turning to the right , clockwise, lessens the tension on the spring and it comes out of the lever. Take it apart, AGAIN, put it back together as described above and then turn collar ccw to see if that raises rpm, it does, but I lose throttle response.

What am I missing? Man, I am way too good at taking this thing apart, it's driving me nuttttttttttttttttttts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, did you ever get this resolved? You are describing the same issue I am having on my lawnboy goldpro with the 6.5 duraforce. Starts and runs fine when cold but if i have to stop it for a bit then start it back up, it runs rough/misses for about 5-10 minutes before it goes back to normal. I have already changed the coil with no change. I was also thinking it was the carb until I saw your post.

Easiest way to check if you have a seal issue is to spray carb cleaner near shaft while engine is running. If you get an rpm change then you have a leaky seal, make sure mist does not get into intake of carb.

Dirt in the idle jet and main jet can cause a pinging and rough running motor. I have had issues with both jets, mine would run rough until motor was loaded (cutting taller grass) then it would run better. Also the float out of adjustment (not letting enough gas in) can have similar running issue. The tabs on the cork floats are really flimsy.
