Can't help you until we figure out the manufacturer of your HydroGear. Different manufactures use different lubes. Please post the tractors model numbers and we should be able to help. It should say in you owner manual. Stupid question, are you sure that the lube can be changed, some are sealed?

Hydro Gear uses 15-40 Engine oil in that system...
They also now recommend using Synthetic. I would use Mobil1 15w-50 synthetic or Rotella T6 5w-40.
It is a tedious job changing the oil but you will have a better responding and Longer lasting system running Synthetic in those trans... :smile:KennyV

Hate to say this Kenny, but the last two HydroGears I repaired this spring both took 20w-50. It may be the difference between HydroGear transaxles and HydroGear pumps, that's why I asked for numbers. I'm not familiar with what Cub Cadet uses.

oops... You are Correct AGAIN, they are using 20w-50...
I was discussing oils with someone else when I replied... It pays to check what you type, before posting...

I still would use Mobil1 15w-50 Synthetic... just because it is readily available. And the folks at Hydro Gear are now recommending synthetic (plus have told me 15w50 Mobil1 is great in their components)... :smile:KennyV

Thanks to you both. KennyV and Rivets. I drained and installed Mobile 1 20W-50. The original oil turned out to be green in the drain pan. Hopefully this will help out. was having a slipping problem with right hand drive unit. Was loud too. Short test run after i got it back together (in the rain). lol. Will put it to the test when it dries up. Oh and the drives are Hydro-Gear 01008192 on left and 01008193 on the right side. Also, the units look identical except for the axles go out diffrerent sides.
Thanks again guys.
