You need to have the spring link and the rod link in the right holes without being twisted. See Photo. No if it still happens where it will not stay running or hard to start, your new carb got dirty somehow. Change the spark plug too, NGK or Champion.

You did the right thing, buy a new carb for $28 and be done with it, many more years of reliability without the problems.

Take the fuel line off the carb and turn the engine over, if gas comes out of the pump it is working, if not, bad pump. If it works, then it makes sense it should feed the carb.

New carb, check, empty tank and dry it out before new gas put in? check or no check? If not you may have bad gas in your new carb. Also make sure your linkage is perfect.

When your fuel line breaks all the fine dirt in the tank goes into the carb. You can clean the carb, there is a screen filter within, then sometimes you need a carb kit (gaskets, diaphragm). Often it is better to order a new carb, (carb, filter and new fuel lines) sometimes as cheap as $20...

The motor is probably full of the same bolts, take one that is not so important from somewhere else until you find a bolt.

You may have sheared the PTO wire. Check the pto (under the motor) it will have two wires coming out of it. They could be shorting on something. If the flywheel does not move, the starter gear could be stuck. Try rocking it back and forth with your hands on top. John
