    Unintelligent people.

Just like learning basic things in life such as you can't melt in the rain and engines need gas, these things are usually taught at home at a young age.

Looking to get a '23 Gravely ZTX 48/52 Kaw model, input?

Has there been a change to belt-pully routing design over the years? I have a Hustler FastTrack ZTR, almost 20 years now, and the belt has never jumped. The only time I have had problems is when an idler pully bearing has frozen and the belt thrashed it, then the belt sometimes would get...

    Cheap Chinses Carb

Just a thought, but it appears you have a fuel solenoid on the fuel bowl. I've seen these fail and the engine won't start because it's there to stop fuel flow when the ignition is off. However, is it possible that it, somehow someway, failed in the retract position (bent shaft, broken spring) to...

    B&S Diamond I/C 15.5HP Repair / rebuild

That makes sense. I wonder if CNG conversion vehicle have the same issue as the H2 engines, or is there a carbon buildup with burning CNG as well? I have a propane powered whose house generator and also a dual fuel "portable" generator, and your answer makes me wonder about those engines as...

    Briggs broke rod

Last fall I was using a push mower to mow some brush. The blade hit a small stump , the engine turned on the mower base and a corner was knocked out of the bottom crankcase pan. I decided to fix it, Found a new-ish crankcase pan off of Ebay, I bought all the seals and gaskets, including...

    Blade bolts to tight

That's what I do too. Block of wood wedged between the blade and deck to hold it, long box wrench loosens the bolt. Reverse to tighten.

Hello, Why should the carbon ring around the bore be left? Is it to prevent any lip from damaging the rings at TDC? Thanks.

You can also string an empty can (soft drink, beer) across the top of the bucket (couple of inches water in the bucket of course) and put the PB bait on that. They try to tight-rope walk out to the bait, but go diving instead. I worked on a North Dakota drillsite a few years back where, in the...

I drove a gravely for the 1st time today

Since most of the weight is in the back, I bet they would be mostly to maintain front wheel to ground contact, like you say. Who knows though, they may help with the bone-jarring!

California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

The harvesting of wood (biomass) does the very thing you mentioned: Reduces the land of growing trees which absorb the Sun's heat. It's also less energy dense than coal, oil, or nat. gas, that is taken from the ground, so is much, much less efficient at energy production.

California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

Yeah, I read they're planning on shutting down two Nuclear plants (stupid) and another one, I cannot remember what flavor fossil fuel that powers it. However, they dont have replacement power plants for those they're shutting down, so they will be hurting more! All in the name of "going green"...

Can I change an 11" tire?

I have the exact same size on my ZTR. Years ago I went with inner tubes in them, but earlier this year bought new rubber for tubeless again. It's more difficult than a bicycle tire, because the beads need seating onto the rim and that takes an air tank-compressor that can deliver some volume...

I drove a gravely for the 1st time today

We have an old Hustler Fastrak, and that's the only downside I know of, no suspension other than the tires. You definitely feel any bump or hole the tires encounter. I never thought whether or not other ZTRs have suspension, at least a spring under the seat, like farm tractors.

I don't think so. As easy as mower plugs are to change, go with standard ones.

California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

I have a few Li-ion battery powered items: A string trimmer and 21" push mower, both 80v and batteries interchangeable between both. Also a 14" chainsaw with a 40v battery. I'm happy with them except the face that Lowes (they're the Kobalt brand) likes to make things obsolete after a short time...

    20 HP lawnmower difficulty cranking

This Hustler Honda engine has surely sold me on that! Bought it in late 2003 and runs as well as when new, other than the starter issue of course. The only thing I've done to the engine itself was routine maintenance, replacement of the obvious wear items, air filter, plugs, fuel filter, and the...

    20 HP lawnmower difficulty cranking

I think that is the whole problem, the current starter, an aftermarket one I bought earlier this year, has had this problem since I put it on. I did find another solenoid, from a prior starter I had, connected it to a battery, tested it and it seems to work. I may replace my current one with it...

    20 HP lawnmower difficulty cranking

Thanks for replying, I've isolated everything except the starter solenoid. For now the rubber mallet works everytime, rapping it while holding the key to "start". Starts just fine when doing this. Is the solenoid sold separately from the starter? I'm tired of buying the whole thing. Gamma

Which would you prefer for your own mower?

I prefer soldering my electrical connections because it just makes for a better connection. My thoughts about using Pb alloy solder are, any environmental consequences has already been done in the mining, refining, and manufacture (like E-vehicles, huh?) Besides, there is lead-free electrical...

Multimeter recommendation for riding mower troubleshooting

I've had several over the years. The one I use almost daily, I believe I got from The Home Depot and it works well enough for my purposes. I paid less than $40 fir it, I believe. The display lights up which is a plus for my almost 60 year old eyes.

    20 HP lawnmower difficulty cranking

Hello, I thought I would provide an update, just in case anyone is interested. I set the valve lash as per specs, and the engine did the same thing, just clicked. LawnMachines 300e Mower won't start-- Choke?

Problems Tapping/reaming new spark plug hole

Does the piston happen to be TDC? It's entirely possible it's keeping the end of the tap from going far enough to start threads. In college I had a VW Beetle and had to install a couple of these. Before starting to cut, I would turn the crankshaft to the exhaust stroke of that cylinder (exhaust...

    Getting small, best lawn tractor.

Hello, With that amount of lawn to mow, I think you should revisit ZTRs. Hello, I'm having an issue with a Honda GXV620 20HP dual-cylinder engine on a Hustler Fastrak. We purchased this mower in 2003 and it has run beautifully, the engine runs as good as when it was brand new. It has cranked flawless form 2003 until 2019, but over the last two seasons it there...
