    Open Positive? *Update*

I’m just an average DiYer but here is my two cents. If necessary charge battery just enough to start tractor then shut motor off. Use volt meter to check battery DC voltage with engine off. Then start tractor and recheck battery voltage at battery again. It should be higher now indicating...

    17.5 bends pushrods

A lot of very good advice has been given here. What causes over heating. Among other things, 1. Debris/mouse nests under engine shroud clogging cooling fins. Take the shroud off and inspect. 2. While there go a step further and inspect the flywheel key. Look close at it. If the flywheel has...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

OK I lied!! It warmed up a little today, so I made it out to the garage. I released the center brake adjustment nut and the mower shifted OK. I tightened the nut some and it still shifted OK but had no brakes. Kept tightening the nut to the point where I have a very little brake pressure and...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

Thank you to those that replied. Things are very hectic this time of year and I’m taking a break from the garage for now. I don’t know why but the brake was shimmed with washers on the adjustment nut and not working at all when I got it. The first thing I’m planning on doing is disengage the...

Craftsman Gear Shift Stuck After Stopping

Craftsman Tractor Model - 917.252510 - 42" Deck - 16HP Briggs Transmission Dana Transaxle Model - 4360.79 This thing is about 30 years old. The engine was blown when I received it (no oil), and previous owner has no history to help. It came with the house. Just completed an engine swap with...

    Briggs 800 175cc won’t start

Thank you for letting us know your conclusion. Too many ask for help but never return to add what solved their issue. Inquiring minds need to know what solved the mystery.

    D105 engine keeps dying

I know this is a late response, but my vote goes to the plugged vent hole in the gas cap. They run about 15 minutes with a plugged hole in the gas cap then the vacuum pressure increases greater that the fuel pump can handle starving the carburetor.

    Mower dies when engaging blades

Sounds like my Briggs V Twin problem. Tractor came to me not running. With new battery and wiring issues fixed it ran what I thought was ok but then, no power when PTO engaged, it died. Found mine was running on one cylinder. Getting spark. Getting fuel. Compression great. I had two...

    LT125 (23420) Too Fast

Lt125(23420) - Too Fast!! This mower has the automated transmission with a forward and reverse pedal. No gear shift. I love it but in forward it easily goes too fast with just a light push on the pedal especially when trying to go slow mulching leaves. It is ok at first but the foot pressure...

    LT125 (LT23420) Deck Belt Size

Snapper dealer could not tell me which belt size I needed from model numbers however she sold me the 91.10” size because she said she rarely sells the other size for Snapper. It fit!!!

Briggs vtwin intek 20hp running on one cylinder

Timing might be off due to the flywheel key shearing. $2.13 key solved my problem. But it further cost over $250 more because previous owner drove it overheating the cylinder head which pushed out the valve guides bending the pushrods. New cylinder head, new pushrods, new gaskets needed because...

    LT125 (LT23420) Deck Belt Size

Snapper Model number is 2690875, Serial number 2014719099 42" deck. I have found reference to two belt sizes, 91.10" and 94.45". My old belt is shredded so it is no help. The different belt sizes references one for a shallow groove pully and the other for a deep groove pully. How do I tell...

    Snapper LT-125 Mulch Plate - 42"

Made it today. However, the jigsaw was not very effective. Rubber bounced too much. A hacksaw, drill and wire cutters worked.

Briggs & Stratton 575EX with loud bang after 4 seconds switch off

I am reading a lot of these hard starting, backfire issues today and since I just solved by problem I am throwing this out there. My final solution was solved with a new $2.18 key in the flywheel. Old one was sheared putting timing off 1/8". New key, no more problem. My issue was further...

V-Twin 26HP engine blowing oil at parting line of crankcase

I'm new to this so I hope others don't mind me asking a question. I just do not know why a crankcase gasket would just fail on its own. Crank shaft oil seals failing yes. But, the case gasket is a non-moving, no friction part. Other parts in that area that I have found the source of leaks...

17hp briggs v-twin misfiring and hard starting

Third place to look - Remove the flywheel and check the key. Timing is off. I just repaired a Snapper that had multiple issues. Carburetor hooked up wrong, choke was hooked up backwards and fully open not closed when set. Then #1 cylinder pushrods and valve guides broken. Mouse nest...

    LT1046 won’t start

Can you hook up a temporary fuel tank with a new hose to the carburetor and gravity feed the gas to see if it starts? This will bypass the fuel tank, hoses, filter and pump to determine if you are looking in the right area.

    Snapper LT-125 Mulch Plate - 42"

Tractor Model 2690872 Circa 2014 - I am looking for a mulch plate to fit onto my 42" deck to use for mulching leaves in the fall. I do not want to pay $160/$260 for a full mulch kit. Just looking to find only a plate to McGyver and make it fit the discharge on the deck. Any suggestions on one...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

SUCCESS!! I owe everyone who replied a big thank you!! After pondering the issue for two days I pulled the flywheel. The key was sheared!! $2.18 later and it purrs. This has been a journey. I purchased this Snapper LT125 (2014) with 23.5HP from a scrapper for $25.00 last fall. It is the...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

Thanks to everyone posting suggestions. I removed, disassemble and cleaned the carb including using torch tip wires in all the tiny ports. Internally, the carb showed absolutely no dirt at all. One of the cleanest one I have seem. Have not installed it yet. Giving the task a couple days off to...

    S130 Grass Cutting Issues

Had same problem on my D105. Deck was bent where one of the spindles mounts holding the blade. Grandson must have hit something. (Make sure one blade is not bent first.). Remove the deck and turn it over. Rotate the blades by hand and see where they meet in the middle. They should match each...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

Thank you for the reply. The plot thickens. It backfires intermittently when running and appears to be the cylinder with the new head. The other cylinder never appeared to have a problem. Remember I received this tractor running but I have no history. A wire going to the brake safety...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

The valves were installed in the new Briggs head with the springs and keepers as an assembly when I received the head. I did not lap them. All I did was install the rocker arms and set the new push rod gaps to .005 after installing the new head. I just did a compression test and both...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

Thank you. I edited the original post. The valve tappets are moving free and that both cylinder heads were heavily covered in mouse nests so I know it had to of over heated. All parts of both pushrods are accounted for so I do not think I don't need to do anything other than head replacement...

Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin Bent Push Rods

On the dead cylinder I removed the valve rocker cover and found both push rods bent...

Briggs 23HP One Cylinder Head Hot

Snapper LT125 with Briggs 23Hp Model 44L777 V-Twin. The cylinder on the brake side valve cover is much hotter to the touch than the other side. It runs fine but does exhibit some popping when the engine is shut off unless it is throttled to an idle first. Why would one valve cover be hotter...

Brand new HRX217 takes multiple pulls to start when cold. Is this normal?

I have the same issue each fall and spring when it is colder and when in low 40's needed to use starting fluid. The solution is easy. Very slowly pull the rope all the way out two or three times. This appears to manually prime the carburetor. Then pull hard as you normally would it mine...
