Lawn Mower runs for 10 minutes and stops

Could be the gas cap isn't venting. No air gets in, so no gas gets out. Next time it dies, open the gas cap, wait a minute, then put it all back and try starting it.

    Clutch Hard To Shift Gears

Look for a loose bracket or mount somewhere. Maybe a bolt fell out somewhere. Things could get cocked sideways and throw the works out of adjustment.

    Honda mower struggles.

Without the exact model number, I'm just guessing. But the exploded diagram looks like there is a stud that screws in the block, which then has the fan cover on it, then the recoil starter, and lastly the nuts. So the whole stud is unscrewing. If you can unscrew all three, then you can probably...

Husqvarna mower on side for 2 weeks, now won't start! HELP

Sounds like hydrostatic lock -- oil is inside the cylinder. And it won't compress, hence, it fights back when you try to start it. Pull the spark plug and see if it cranks better then. I'll betcha a whole bunch of oil gets blown out. When you do finally get it started, expect massive clouds...

    B&S 10L802-0858-F1 Run Issue (Auto-choke/Govenor?)

If you had the carb off and started disassembly, could you have messed up the float somehow?

    B&S 10L802-0858-F1 Run Issue (Auto-choke/Govenor?)

You might want to doublecheck that. Remember, you get a spark every revolution, whereas a lot of engines (automotive) only get a spark every other. The tach may be reading double.

    Garden Tractor Brain Teaser

Put a voltmeter or a test light to the starter solenoid and see if it gets power when you turn the key. If it doesn't, work backwards through the various safety switches to see which one is open. If it does get power, you'll have to dig a little to see if the starter failed, you've got poor...

    Craftsman Lawn Mower Information

Well, the owner's manual on searspartsdirect has a copyright of 2005. It's not listed as self propelled. . And I think the build date is January 9, 2005. Operative word think.

I'd begin with jumper cables. It sounds like nothing more sinister than a bad battery.

Briggs and Strattoon top pully removal out of a Swisher Big Mow

This looks really familiar. Reminds me of an ancient lawnmower I took apart when i was about 14. It didn't go back together, but that's another story... Anyway, I have an old book so I looked a little. Looks to me like that housing with the four bolts screwed into it is the flywheel nut. I'd...

    Runs with choke closed

I think it's more likely lean fuel than air leak. If it sits a lot, as generators do, gas evaporates and varnish grows in the carb and plugs circuits. Get a gasket kit and a can of carb cleaner.

Look for an air leak. Carb insulator, gasket, anything between block and carb is suspect.

    Gas coming out of muffler

Generally it sounds like it wants to start. So close. It just won't. It has full compression, so if you're pulling on a rope it feels the same. Your electric starter probably sounds normal. You'll have spark. A little gas in the carb won't get it going. By rights, doing the obvious checks, it...

    Gas coming out of muffler

You're either flooded -- see post above -- or you jumped time and the spark comes at the wrong time so the gas that got drawn in gets pushed out the exhaust unburnt. That would be a sheared flywheel key.

Kohler Pro 23hp liquid cooled V-twin dying after 3 seconds...

First thing is to find a wiring schematic. Then you go to the auto parts store and buy either a circuit breaker or an old fashioned cheap turn signal flasher. You may need some jumper wires with alligator clips, too. Connect whichever you got in place of that fuse that keeps popping. When...

Which deep well socket should I buy?

46mm might be easier to find. It's what was used on VW bus axle nuts for decades. You might even be able to find an older auto mechanic who has one he only uses now to press bearings who will loan/rent/sell it to you.

    Is there an additive?

I've got a Honda generator. I run it every few weeks to power the weedwacker and a couple times a year my electric tiller. The gas is seldom more than a couple months old. The other day I emptied one of my composters (yes, we can do that in February in Southern California) and dragged the tiller...

Troy Bilt Bronco 2009 engine — Need help

A wild guess, here. Could the fuel cap be too air=tight? No air in means no gas gets out, means fuel starvation. All you need to do to test this is run it until it starts acting up then loosen the gas cap.

  27. Richard320

    Yamaha Generator EF12000DE

That's a fuel starvation problem. At idle or half throttle you get enough to keep it running, but at full throttle you empty the bowl so it dies. And then it refills while you're cursing and it restarts. You need to check for pinched fuel lines and clogged filters. And if the fuel hose is...

    Battery voltage

The test for a battery is done with a load tester or a digital battery tester, not with a voltmeter. A lead-acid battery should show no lower than 12.6V before you test it. Voltage doesn't tell you much about the battery once it's been in service. Half the lead could have vibrated off the...

Push lawn mower losing power with blade.

Lack of power under load is some kind of fuel problem. Start by looking at the throttle linkage and the governor linkage. Nothing binding? Make sure that when you are going full throttle that the carburetor is getting the message and that the cable is adjusted right. Assuming the throttle is...

won't start or turn over when hot

Since it's temperature-related and it's not the starter motor itself, I'd start looking for a poor electrical contact and a gap that grows with heat expansion. Voltage drop is a good place to start, if you have a digital volt meter. Hold the positive to the positive battery post -- not the...

V Twin Not accelerating, runs terrible

Look for air leaks. Maybe a breather tube left off? If you have gas and you have spark and you have compression, then the only thing keeoing it from going is gas not getting in to the spark and compression. That could be an air leak.

    Another Surging Quandary

I would have to say "governor is not good". It runs good under a heavy load so you can rule out fuel starvation, whether clogged jet or misadjusted float or a vacuum leak. And an ignition breakdown would manifest itself worse under load, so it's not in there. Compression doesn't just come and...

    run problem

That sounds like a big vacuum leak. Any vent hoses knocked off? The carb gasket was the right size? No bolts bottomed out before things were seated completely?
  44. Richard320

    General Carb Question...

I would look for a giant air leak. When the engine is running, it sucks air through the carb and the air picks up gas along the way. If there's an easier way, or even just an extra way, for air to get into the cylinder without going through the carb, it will. And then you don't get enough gas to...

    Howdy folks

I'm Richard. I live in a suburb of Los Angeles that no one has ever heard of. I'm no stranger to engines, I started wrenching professionally on cars in 1986 and occasionally on a lawnmower. I bought a secondhand chipper/shredder and keep that running. Once in a while I have to help my brother...
