Final post. Removing the heat shield fixed it. I mowed for two hours yesterday, didn't spit or sputter once. I'm thinking of making a short youtube video. Maybe help someone else. Thanks to all for the tips.

Hey folks, before I order a new rebuild kit is it possible to push the needle valve seat in too far? I ask because the seat and valve are new, but the valve isn't stopping fuel flow.

Ilengine, I'm not going to say it's fixed but, I decided to check the hot carb theory first since it seemed easy. I started looking to see what I had to remove so I could check the carb when it failed. The first thing I saw was the heat shield you mentioned, and it does direct all that hot...

Bertsmobile1, thanks for all these tips. I'll try them all. Since this model has a fuel pump, any reason I can't just hook a fuel line to the pump (which has been replaced) and drop the other end in a gas can sitting on the deck in front of the seat? Btw I'm on the east coast so it's raining...

I will give that a shot. Currently out of stock, but I put it on my watch list. Side note: I went to ereplacement parts, they wanted $200 just for the solenoid.

Hey Guys and Girls. I've been working on this motor on and off for 4/5 years. Replaced the mower when it started acting up and break this out and try something else when I feel like it. The mower starts, runs, and cuts fine for 60 to 90 mins then starts spitting sputtering then quits. Let it...

    Tecumseh carb.

Thanks Ilengine I suspected as much but didn't know what that tube was. I just rebuilt the carb. Apparently I didn't get the float, needle valve, or seat right. I'll get another kit and start over. Thanks again.

Working on an old generator. Can someone pls tell me what the small open ended tube in the air intake throat is? As soon as I allow gas flow it pours out of this small tube. Thanks for any insight.
