Why did you install a new carburetor? Do you still have the OEM carburetor? First thing I would do is open the valve cover and do visual inspection and check/set valves to spec.

In order for a deck swap to be successful, without modification, you would need to take measurements. That can only be done accurately with both decks being side by side along with visual inspection.

Probably not. Many mowers have specific deck set ups so that interchangeably of decks is not that easy, without modifying. John Deere is usually even more proprietary in parts interchanging easily.

Take a flashlight and look everywhere on mower frame for model number. Do the same for engine. Without the correct model numbers you are shooting in the dark.

I sharpen well over 100 blades per year, not really sure. My main issue is the grinding wheels glazing up and becoming way less effective. I am going to try a grinding wheel dresser tool and see if that helps. I appreciate everyone’s input on this topic!
