GCV 160 defies my repair attempts

Ditto on the spark plug. I have also seen multiple Honda engines do that exact thing and a new plug fixed it.

    Timecutter 4235 front tires

My favorite is when folks bring me a mower with a crap ton of sealer in the tires and now the tires are so bad the tires have to be replaced and now I have to clean up the mess and deal with the rusted rims. Then they question what I want to charge to fit new tires. Let's see, clean up the mess...

    Turbocharging a lawn mower

Back in a previous century when the 5hp flathead briggs was THE engine guys running the unlimited class were running superchargers and alcohol. Some were centrifugal and some axial flow. Turbocharging a lawn mower

I would ba amazed if even the chineese could make a turbo for $75. What type of bearings are they using to withstand the heat with no oil cooling? Or is it called a turbo kit and is just a fancy air cleaner and muffler on a pipe?

    Turbocharging a lawn mower

You are talking about a single cylinder push mower engine which is probably 8 to 10 cubic inch displacement. Here are some reasons why turbocharging such an engine is difficult. First is exhaust reversion. When a single cylinder engine closes the exhaust valve the exhaust gases literally stop...

    Turbocharging a lawn mower

A single cylinder governed engine running 3400 rpm would respond to a positive displacement supercharger but you won't get enough exhaust to properly spin a turbo to get any midrange improvement. You need at least a twin cylinder engine for a turbo to work. The kits in your link are for multi...

    YTH23V48 Fuel Weirdness

Disconnect the outlet hose from the fuel pump. You can pressurise the tank about 1.5 -2 psi with your breath. Seal you mouth on the tank and Blow into the tank and you should get fuel out of the fuel pump outlet. If not something is blocking the fuel.

    Turbocharging a lawn mower

Only top end. This was on a go cart. Even with different gearing the engine would top out right at 6300 rpm. This is with no govenor and wide open throttle. After the tube was connected it topped out about 6700. Didn't help the acceleration so no gain in the midrange and 6500 is about the limit...

    Turbocharging a lawn mower

No idea about that kit but once routed a 1 1/2" hose from the fan shroud to the carb on a 5hp briggs. It did up the top end but was a bear to tune. Had to richen up the main jet for top end and ran rich at partial throttle.

    Cut of height motor

I see the electric deck lift actuators go bad a lot. Personally I feel they are a gimmick that has no real purpose other than a marketing thing. Customers love dropping a few hundred on a mower with very low hours because a 10 cent plastic gear stripped out in the lift actuator. < end of rant>

    Kohler KT740 flywheel removal.

This is the one I have. Runs air line pressure at 150psi. Gets used every day and in 5 years only thing that failed was the pressure switch. Easy fix. I installed an automatic tank drain and a contactor to lower the load on the switch contacts. Replaced a Parr brand compressor built in 1944...

I have used 2 wood wedges under the flywheel driven tight then drilled a pocket in the head of a bolt that fits the threads on the crank and used an air hammer on the bolt. They come right off. I keep a bunch of different bolts around with pockets drilled in the head for the air hammer.

Not to debate the virtues of going EV but rather EV equipment serviceability. I have quit taking in any battery equipment in my shop. Kohler twin oil pressure

That is plenty of oil pressure. Oil pressure is needed to overcome inertia forces of a spinning crankshaft. High revving long throw engines need higher oil pressures so the short throw low revving mower engines only need a few pounds of oil pressure.

    Honda gcv 160 rebuild

If your cylinder is smooth and shiny you need to "break the glaze" oil will bake into the almost microscopic crosshatch grooves from the original honing. Arrgh, broke bolt removing brakes.

A tip when using dies is to use the longest handled die stock you can. The longer it is the easier to keep it level when starting. I always laugh when I see guys on YouTube using an adjustable wrench to start a die.

I am pretty good at free handling starting taps and dies. Sometimes I will take the belt off the drill press and chuck up the tap and put the piece in a machinist vise and twist it by hand to get it started. Lots of hex dies suck for getting started. I prefer adjustable round dies. Usually have...
