um, I think Paul's said it runs full speed & sputters as it does not idle. Idle seems not to be the issue. If I read all posts correctly.

What is the issue? What is not working or not doing?

Best to put correct switch in, rather than guess if switch lying around is bad or switching power to ground.

Do your google research, Wix oil filters are extremely effective filters, Frams, Stp etc... not! Check a few sites that have tested most filters. You could be surprised! OE filters also top pick, usually.

Also check for Bad PTO switch, not that it is just off.

Governor not killing it, starts to die - rpms get less - the governor opens throttle to bring rpms up. Issue not governor, it's .....

The combination of the brake switch & engine kill is a safety feature, need to stop blades quickly - release handle & save a foot or some thing else.

After ignition fixed, may want to see if plunger rod partially blocks main jet with rubber stopper removed.

Carburetor up on top, oil gets into vent tube and ends up in carb if it is on the down side.

Your pictured carb has separate 'o' ring at fuel inlet,bowl gasket #698781, newer model carbs have as part of the bowl gasket #695426.

I wouldn't say rare, happened to me a couple times & also with my customers over the years. Still, at that age I would replace rather then walking back & going out to buy a battery.

The higher the CCA is usually the better & longer lasting battery. Had not luck with Walmart, just me I guess! And yes, why wait for a problem you know is coming!!

I use Standix Model 1082, just hold spring against wire & good to go! Don't foget rod adjusting tool.

I used to use those till I found these, they don't dig down & expand tightening against hole.
