    Slicks to avoid making ruts?

I try to make wide turns if lawn space allows it. Other types of turns take more careful handling of the levers, I have to be careful not to pull the reversing side lever too far back, as the mower will spin that tire backward. My Turf Care CZ42175 is repowered with a 19hp B&S which is a tiny...

This is good news! As I have a similar generator with a Kawasaki engine I am relieved that issues CAN be resolved. A big thumbs up to you, Rivets for your success!!

    CMXGAAH46BT PARTS??

Having the tools and being able to work on your own mower helps keep our mowers running long after the big box mowers are scrapped. It also keeps us from being prey to repair shops that only care about the $$$. The knowledge base here that we are blessed with is immense and from repair people...

    CMXGAAH46BT PARTS??

Good point! My somewhat elderly (2005) CZ42175 zero turn Turf Care/Husqvarna was also sold as a Craftsman and as a Poulan mower. On the plus side, since almost none of the wear parts on it are proprietary, so I don't have to rely on Husqvarna for parts. The deck spindles, hydros, and the engine...

It’s my time to ask for help.

I have a PowerMate small genset that has a Kawasaki engine in it. I bought it from Northern Tool quite some time ago. As I remember,it was an extra cost upgrade over the Briggs standard engine. don't think it came with an engine section in the owner's manual, though. I need to thank...

New mower belt broke - ISX2200

My issue in regards to a shredded belt was a frozen/bad bearing in a flat side idler pulley. But this was on a high hours mower, not one almost new. Wrong belt routing would be more likely here.

    Kawasaki fs691v fuel filter

I have actually had one of these filters come apart at the seam! I think the two pieces are supposed to be sonic-welded,but one I had wasn't welded together. It was down stream of my fuel shut-off so no big deal.but I check every one now.

I drove a gravely for the 1st time today

So true. My mistake. Tractor-style mowers do indeed have their seats over or even a bit behind the rear axle line. Opps! Only my Snapper RER has it in the middle. Thanks for the correction,PT!

    Standard spark plugs vs. iridium.........

I use OEM Iridium plugs almost solely because of the 'hard to change' factor on my 4.0 OHV Ranger. Oil change is a lark compared to lug changes!

    Standard spark plugs vs. iridium.........

Several places around here sell "Ethanol-free" gasoline. One CAN use regular "pump" gas, but it's risky and usually ends up badly. Evan an ultrasonic parts cleaner won't get all the disintegrated fuel lines out of those itty-bitty passages when the ethanol dissolves the fuel lines. Ethanol...

I drove a gravely for the 1st time today

I'm embarassed! :-( You are so right about the tractors! My Snapper has the seat in the middle. The Snapper is probably the only mower that is set up like that. Ill delete that ill-informed post!

Low-gade Metal in Blades -- all blades, any brand?

5 point star? Next time you need blades, try to find Oregon Durable blades. I had issues with bending the OEM Husqvarna blades on my CZ42175. No more issues with the Oregon Durable brand blades.

    Junk mower? Really?

Actually, SHE is the one that purchased the ZTR, as we needed something a bit bigger than my 33" Snapper rer to mow our 1,5 acres out of town. She is just a bit disappointed that things wear out! The pulley in question cost me $14.5 total. Took 15 minutes to put it on, only one bolt. She says...

    Standard spark plugs vs. iridium.........

I put Motorcraft iridium plugs in my Ford Ranger 4.0 because they are so difficult to get to change. I don't want to do it any more often than I need to. My mowers are super easy to get to the plugs. A buck and a half OEM replacement plug works just as well as a $6.00 plug.

California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

I have a 110v Craftsman chain saw I use once in a while for trimming small stuff, BUT if I want/need to get serious about something bigger than 4" I get out the 250cc saw that btw is GAS powered. If all I had was the 110v and a tree was across my service power line, well, the 110v wouldn't cut...

    Junk mower? Really?

My Husqvarna Turf Care CZ42175 is a 2005 and things do break or wear out on it from time to time. Overall,it's a solidly built well-designed mower that is easy to work on,if I need to fix something. This week, while I was mowing full steam ahead, one of the deck idler pulleys that tension the...

California law bans small off-road gas engines, including lawnmowers and chainsaws

"You get the government you vote for" Yes,serves 'em right! Everyone who voted for the clowns that passed this law needs to mow their lawns with an old style reel-type push mower like grandpa had! Problems, emissions-wise are solved!

Help with Briggs 500e series 140cc repair (Craftsman M100 push mower)

Bent then straightened cranks sometimes break. It's not too big a deal if there is just a pulley on the end of that crank, but a double ended sharp blade ,turning at high rpm, just a foot or two from your ankles!?? Replacement engines can be less expensive than a trip to the emergency room...

Diesel doesn’t go in these ....

May I add, before you beat your wife up too bad for her mistake, these OHV Intek Briggs engines are prone to blowing the head gasket right there where yours did. That's why the mower shop had the gasket in stock. I'd bet they have a drawer full of them. There is a possibility that this had...

I wonder about the Michelin tweel Turf tires. Pricey.but never have to be sure to even out the tire pressure or flats. Or dry rot in the sidewalls ,either. Worth it?

    There's your problem

This carb fits my story a while back about the Sears Craftsman lawn tractor getting washed after every mow job. Water WILL get in the fuel tank through the vent and cause this. Under warranty? Uh,maybe not. LOL!

B&S Vanguard fuel solenoid not available

Thanks. That is what I have decided to do. It only took me a couple of minutes to diagnose the 'No fuel' issue, and just a couple of minutes to remove and modify the plunger. It actually took longer to walk back to the garage to get the tools, well, tool,a 1/2 inch wrench is all it takes. I think...

B&S Vanguard fuel solenoid not available

Got cha! I do have several carbs with the solenoids that are intact, maybe I'll put one of them on and keep the 'snipped' one in reserve for when the intact one fails at the back of my acreage! I do have one question though,is there any likely cause for these solenoid valves to fail?

Just heard today that Black and Decker / Stanley bought MTD

Back in the 'old' days,Sears would have known good product makers make their Craftsman equipment. Husqvarna Turf Care made a number of the Craftsman rider mowers, and when Poulan was their own company, they made a lot of the Craftsman chain saws. In the new age of big box stores, this all went out...

B&S Vanguard fuel solenoid not available

Thanks,bertsmobile1, I've had no 'backfire' issues at all. This mower has the magneto kill wire incorporated into the key switch,so maybe that has something to do with no backfiring. I do have other carbs with this problem solenoid valve, but is it really worth putting a known possible failure...

B&S Vanguard fuel solenoid not available

Just this week,my mower, the Husqvarna 42175 ZTR,powered with a 19hp Intek B&S,,just up and quit ,at the back of the one acre MIL's yard! A quick diagnosis led me to believe no fuel. Fuel tank was full, fuel valve was on "ON",so what? The pesky anti-backfire solenoid carb valve, maybe? Turning the...

Where would the world be without the USA?

With all due respect to a very respected poster, the USA is NOT a Democracy,we are a Republic. We,the people are judged to be not capable of thinking for ourselves,so we have voted for and elected officials to do that for us. A true democracy would let the people have their say.

    23hp Briggs v-twin 625 hours... Rebuild?

IDK about less cost to repair. You can't buy just the rods for most of the Briggs engines, you have to buy a 'crank set',including the rods and a fitted crankshaft. Couple that cost with any other parts, valves, gaskets, etc, and you're way past the cost of a replacement engine. It isn't easy staying...

    23hp Briggs v-twin 625 hours... Rebuild?

My grandfather had a stationary gasoline engine that he used around the farm in the 1930's,'40's and up into the 1950's. He got it from his father who had purchased it who knows when, but it was a very long time ago, early 1900's or maybe even earlier. My 'little brother,(65+yo) lives on the farm...

    23hp Briggs v-twin 625 hours... Rebuild?

I'd bet it would weigh more than that! LOL! The weight difference between my 18hp opposed and my 19 hp Intek is amazing. It's hard enough to not tear up the big yard with the 19hp Intek light weight on the ZTR. The opposed is on the Snapper and the Snapper is a bit kinder on turf,so I use it in...

    23hp Briggs v-twin 625 hours... Rebuild?

Imagine if you will,an engine for your rider that had removeable wet (oil or ooolant contact) cylinder liners, replaceable tri-metal rod bearings(Cevite 77?) ,forged piston(s)and a full cast iron block and heads. Might be expensive to start with, but you'd only buy it once.

    23hp Briggs v-twin 625 hours... Rebuild?

I suppose I'm a bit of a hack, too. Unless one is using the equipment professionally where downtime is money lost, run it till it drops dead, then replace it with an 'all parts totally new' engine. All this saying keeping up good maintenance, oil changes, air filters, etc. There is that school of...

    Too much compression?

You are so right. Answer is..absolutely not! I took the bottom end off and removed the pieces while waiting for a replacement cam. I thought it best to not go with a used or an aftermarket cam,so there was some wait time. The grass didn't wait.. Not a difficult job.
  49. S

    Too much compression?

I had this cam/ACR issue a while back. A "hack" I learned was if you just have to get the Briggs running to mow, covering the intake at the carb will not allow air into the engine and the engine will turn over fast enough to start as soon as you remove your carb covering. I used a piece of rubber...

Carb flooding no matter what I do...

Back to the topic, here's pic of the needles. See the ring on the tip? Left needle. While I do have shut-offs on all my OPE stuff, that is not an option on an marine engine that may overflow at any time.
