    Jacobsen 1200 super chief

Just to clarify, this will crank over but it will not start and run due to no ignition fire? Do you have a basic test light and a multimeter to check voltage and resistance?

Craftsman YS4500 Mower jerks into gear when releasing clutch to go forward or backward.

Hello M., Welcome to the forum. Whenever you ask for help, make sure you give us the product label information off of the chassis. If the question is related to the engine, we will need the label info for that as well. Not all of these riders are built the same. This model is bad about...

    Electric start

Hello A., I run propane tractors and generators. All of them call for a closer gap of .026 inch so the propane will fire properly under load. Propane comes into the engine a vapor concentration where gasoline is still evaporating into a vapor as it enters the cylinder.

    Electric start

Hello D., I converted both of my small generators to a gasoline/ propane combo a couple of year ago. Yes, they are much harder to start on just propane when cold (even when priming the regulator), so I use the gasoline for initial starting and warmup. Then I cut the fuel valve off and wait for...

Husqvarna lc121p with B&S 725EXi engine low power.

A typical small engine like this one will make 60 PSI on a compression gauge after about 4-5 pulls. The compression release mechanism will not build full compression until it fires up and runs.

    New Blade clutch questions

The adapter is intended to hold the crank while the center bolt is tightened. I recommend you install it on the new replacement clutch. It does a better job of protecting the clutch bearing than plain washers.

    Electric start

Just from my experience... I have 2 generators with this same 10HP OHV engine. One was a new replacement engine that was equipped with a 120V starter because it is a snow blower engine with a tapered shaft. The engine has the same tapered crank used on a B&S Storm responder generator. The...

    Electric start

Is this a generator application? Hard to tell from the picture. Is a 1 or 2 pull to start that challenging? If so, the carburetor is likely dirty from old Ethanol fuel and sitting for months at a time. Converting one of these engines cost more than buying a new engine already equipped with...

    Fuel level level marker

This tank is hidden in the rear of the chassis and there are no provisions to add a fuel sender and gauge without some serious disassembly and fabrication. Online automotive parts supply companies like Summit Racing do make universal sender units and programmable gauges. The tank would need to...

John Deere GT275 throwing deck belt

Please provide the chassis PIN label information so we can get better details in the parts and service information. JD did not build the all the same and a serail number break can make a lot of difference when it comes to design configurations. It is also curious that it has no belt...

How long does a SLA battery typically last?

The typical life of any battery depends on how it is maintained. If I had to put a number to it, I would say at least 5 years with minimal charging. Much of it depends on how often you run the machine and for how long and if the battery is kept properly charged. I don't think the Toro recycler...

Fuel line in a fuel line.... fuel filter?

These are what I like to call a "gotcha filter". Some repair shop techs do not even know they are in there. Most of the time they can be easily cleaned by blowing carb spray back into them and into the tank. They are a simple tube type screen filter that is inserted into the fuel line end...

Spray each exhaust outlet pipe with a spray bottle of water and see if they both burn of quickly. This sound like one cylinder is losing ignition fire. I'm not sure if this engine has diodes in the ignition kill wire harness, but if it does, they would be suspect. You can pull the cover and...

    Hydro Pressures

Hello C., There are many design variables involved so pressures and gallons per minute (GPM) will be different. I suggest you study some of the manufacturer's specs to get a better idea. Tuff Torque is one of the most popular makers of hydrostatic transmission for most manufacturers. Mower...

    Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

The equipment market is no longer pro-repair (especially after Covid), so manufacturers price most parts up in the stratosphere to make up for lost profits from years past. This makes people mad, so they reluctantly end up buying more new equipment. It's a strategy being used across many...

    Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

Hi bartles, "Back in the day" most components also had flat mating surfaces, so many gaskets were simple to make. Now, engineers have resorted to intricate designs that require special heat-resistant O-rings and molded rubber gaskets. Of course, many of the old bad habits have not gone away...

    Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

Back when mechanics were actually tradesman, it was routine to make many of the pressed paper and cork gaskets from bulk roll material for a job. Even today, it still does not make sense to me to delay a job just to buy simple gaskets that can be made by hand.

Husqvarna lc121p with B&S 725EXi engine low power.

This is why it is important to verify the air vane is functioning properly. This give the thermostat time to heat up and hold the choke open. The choke initially is held open by the air vane operation.

Husqvarna lc121p with B&S 725EXi engine low power.

The air vane near the flywheel and a small spring are supposed to reduce the choke fairly quickly as the thermostat on the muffler heats up. It's an over engineered system. It's been a long time since B&S made anything simple and DIY friendly. The linkage can be a bit confusing, so check out a...

Husqvarna lc121p with B&S 725EXi engine low power.

I hate to mention this, but these engines do have a plastic cam gear that can skip a tooth and throw the valve timing off. That is showing to be one of the weak areas of this engine design. The lobes can also shift on the metal core of the camshaft.

    Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

I agree with what Slomo recommends. Most regular RTV sealers are basically meant for one time assembly and can be a real challenge if you plan to adjust the valves again in the future. #2 Form a gasket is some very good sealant that is user friendly.

    No fuel pump output

Sounds like trash in a gas can strikes again. The supply line needs to be cleared with shop air and the tank removed for a good cleaning. From there, strain any fuel that comes from a supply can.

Is it possible that you are crushing the crankcase vent tube that attaches to the back of the air cleaner assembly? That backing is also what bolts the carburetor and the metal bracket assembly. Did you watch the video I sent you?

    Edger runs, then dies.

My bet is on the starter clutch as well. It will squeal like you describe then bind up the starter head and all that stuff. These old B&S engines were much tougher than the new stuff (garbage) they have today. I would make an effort to save this trimmer as well because it has many years of use...

    stihl strimmers rebuold info wanted

    Edger runs, then dies.

An aftermarket carburetor should be available for this engine without too much trouble. The tube with the screen should not have a hole in it. That screen is the actual fuel filter. These were simple, reliable carburetors, but had a habit of wearing the throttle shaft and housing as they aged...

walk behind trimmer 3rd wheel conversion kit

This is not a totally bad idea, but I see this only being functional in a straight-line operation with no obstacles and not practical using it going straight at a garage door recess area or close trimming around trees. The rounded end cutting ball spindle is much more effective and versatile...

    LT1040 starting issue

Most "old timers" like me go by the standard of .010 coil air gap, .020 points gap (back when they used points) and .030 spark plug gap for push mower and rider engines. There are manuals available online for your particular engine. The engine has its own set of ID numbers. Cub Cadet does not...

    Engine air flow issue?

Hello P., Glad you got it running. One of the forgotten rules on those early pulse-jet carburetors is they were moody about starting if the fuel is below 1/2 tank. The B&S push mowers carbs with the single tube were the worst for this problem. When I first started out in a small engine shop...
