I’m confused, would you please provide us with pictures of the old fuel shutoff and the electric inline shutoff you installed. The only fuel shutoff on that Briggs engine is the electric solenoid mounted on the bottom of the carb, which is electric.

Have you made sure that the choke is closing all the way on start up? Cables will move after time not allowing the choke to fully close. Simple adjustment.

I’ve had success with a mixture of kerosene and antifreeze. Was shown to me by my grandfather on the farm. Don’t know why it works, but you have to soak it for about 6 hours.

Could be a plugged spark arrester, muffler, or exhaust port, check these first. Remove the muffler and try running to see if there is any change. Yes it is going to be loud.

First thing I would check is the drive belt and tensioner. More often than not I find a worn belt and/or tensioner that won’t pivot properly will cause this problem.

My apologies this morning. As soon as I saw that number I realized my memory is fading and Briggs did have a replacement viton seat, which I’ve replaced multiple times.

My memory is fading, but I can’t remember ever seeing a viton seat on a Briggs engine. Now replacing a brass seat on Briggs is a different story.

So essentially you disassemble and rebuild. You can’t convince me that given the cost of doing that many customers want it done. On top of that you are talking two very different engines, trying to compare apples and lemons. Don’t work that way in the small engine industry.
