Craftsman Kohler engine stuck both intake valves in the guides

Almost no question it's fuel. You can usually get them free if you squirt some Kroil/ATF mix in and let them sit. The guides aren't replaceable because they are the parent material of the head. Kohler does make a replacement valve with an oversize valve stem. If the guide is worn, you would ream it and install the valve with the oversized stem.

Thanks for the input V.,

I'm not going to waste time trying to "save" this pair of heads because it will likely be a repeat problem.

Hello V.,

I drove out one of the intake valves with a hammer and long punch to get a better look at the valve stem. The first impression I had of the coating on the stem and part of the intake port reminds me of hard candy. It was not the typical crispy cooked carbon like I was expecting.

The customer did reveal that he was using the budget Ethanol fuel from a local station. It was likely mixed with some kind of foreign substance in and old in-ground fuel tank.

I will be removing whatever fuel is left in the tank and cleanout the carburetor, then put some no Ethanol fuel in it once I get ready to fire it up and run it.

New complete R&L head kits with gaskets and push rods are on the way.
