Hustler Barn Find

I have just been given a Hustler Super Z, with 60" cutter deck, in very poor condition (grow spuds on it).

Can't find any model identification/serial number (may be when its had a good clean the SN may pop out).

Hour meter hard to read but may have 1170.85 hrs on it - so no baby.

The engine has no identifying feature but may be a Kohler /Kawasaki fuel injected model.

Help needed to do a positive ID

Not sure how photos will help you - I already have a very similar machine (it has a SN) & a Kawasaki carburetor engine

The new/old one looks a bit like this;

One piece of advice. Don't pressure wash the mower as labels can disappear. Also once model/serial is found record the numbers just in case that label disappears later.

The reason I am hoping for some clues, as to the serial number & engine type (particularly the latter) is that there are no identifying labels on the mower.or engine, that I can see at this stage.

It would be a great help if you can identify the engine (from the photo above). The rest of the machine appears to be identical with my current model.

That engine is a Kohler engine. It is either a CV740 [27hp] or a CV750 [30hp]. From we need the mower model number to get to the spec number.

I will know for sure when I clean it but at this stage there is no SN tab, in the position that I would expect ie the same as my current Hustler.

The frame/ mower deck appear to be almost identical to my Hustler, for which I have all the manuals - so no problems there.

The engine is quite a diffrent matter. It's definitely very diffrent to my Kawasaki carburetor model. I will seek your assistance if I can not find any Make / Model / SN details.

This is what I hate those decals, they get lost over time making it difficult to do repairs. The next to last Kohler I go by the head gasket and cylinder diameter to get just a head. With Kohler if you find its serial # I can look it up to get the model and spec.

I wish I could be of more help but I would be in the same mess. And I have been there a few times.

Can't find any ID on frame or engine.
Engine definitely a Kohler fuel injection model.
Just wondering if there are any particular features that may ID the engine without pulling it down?

Progress of a sought -

With all fuses, key, deck clutch & relays disconnected, I have a slight electrical short - suggestions welcome.
Could do with the wiring diagram, as much of the electrical system relates to the fuel injection system, so diffrent to my carburettor Kwaka, that I have the wiring diagram for.
Starter motor not working - seem likly that the solenoid is the problem. Should I purchase an OM starter or an Asian copy??
Engine has compression - a good sign.
Had to remove the engine to get the starter motor off.
Could not find any markings on the engine.
Have started to clean - Fuel injectors are blue. Wondering if this may give a clue as to the hp???
