NASTY surprise from Toro on filler plug

My unit has an Allen socket. Use a long Allen socket to tighten and break it loose. Use a long wobbly Allen extension to remove and install the plug, and of course a 24-36” socket extension.

I was going to mention using a die grinder with a burr bit to shape the hole accordingly.

Apparently, the engineers had a hangover when they drew up the diagrams for the stamping dies. The assembly folks did not have enough care to mention the problem, just like the QC folks.

It's too late for you,but a good idea for any future mower purchases is to learn the machine. What I mean is,come to this site, read about all the info on the machine you are thinking on buying. When you go to the dealer you have knowledge to ask questions, observe parts in stock.Ask the tech if you need any special tools. If you do this before the actual purchase, they will think it will help with the sales Knowledge is power, and it saves time and frustration

EDIT: Oops, should have read page two. This was mentioned already:rolleyes:

FYI, my Toro has the same layout. Just did a hydrogear oil change myself! While the manual indicates using the top plug and filling until oil comes out the side (Top Port Plug), the HydroGear kit has a different idea--it comes with a plastic insert that screws into the side plug. There are two tubes on this insert--oil goes in one, and then when the correct level is reached it leaks out the other. Works pretty well, although access is limited underneath too.

Hear's a pic. It's the black fitting sitting on top of the filter:

I have manual. It simply says remove plg, remove breather plug, refill to drip. Do air bleeding procedure. I'm pretty sure and it's quite obvious, that service window in the frame is simply off vs plug location. Basically, frame is for a different transmission or transmission is for a different frame.
I guess it’s nice to know those units equipped with the 2200 can be upgraded with the transmission that has a filter.
Can the transmission be filled from the very accessible fitting adjacent to the fill plug?
