Model 8237 Ser 9424117. I am trying to save this one from the scrapyard. I pulled the engine and disassembled. Replaced bearings and seals top and bottom of crank and the drive shaft bearing and seal. Light hone of cylinder just enough to clean it up and put the crosshatch back in it. New needle bearings in connecting rod and new std size rings. Piston had no scoring, so it was reused after a good cleaning to remove carbon and varnish. So far so good. Yay! Crank spins freely and I have suction at the carb and compression at the plug. Rebuilt carburetor and re-installed powerhead on the deck. Now I cannot find the CD pack ignition coil I removed and must acquire a replacement. The coil I removed was off white plastic with just the mag pick up metal sticking out and one terminal that went to the Off / On switch. I am at a loss as to the correct part number for the replacement coil. Can anyone assist in providing me with the correct coil number?

sgkent, thank you for the reply and link. I went out in the barn and found a box of Lawn Boy parts. Down in the bottom was the old coil part number molded into the case, 681410. Is the 1002949 coil the service replacement for my coil? I believe mine is a ground to run coil looking at the coil wiring and Off / On switch wiring. It does state in the link 78-82 compatible.

I just used the number you provided. I have no personal way of knowing what yours looked like or how you store parts because my parts crystal ball, and my time machine are both broken. The part number you provided to begin with and the one you provide now are different parts. Is it possible that the second part number you gave is just a plastic cover that goes over the actual module? Some people in one thread seemed to thing so.

Original module should be #681578, superseded to 100-2949.

I am not sure where things took a wrong turn. The at one time running mower had the white case coil with 681410 molded into the part.
This is the coil I expect has gone bad for which I would like to find a replacement. Sorry if I made things confusing. These pictures may help

Maybe use https://www.amazon.com/NIMTEK-Ignition-Lawnboy-683215-100-2948/dp/B07583ZDWZ and change closed to run vs open to run

Or try the one you have that you are taking pictures of, and clean up the mount surfaces for good electrical contact.
