I stripped down the carb and gave it another cleaning, reassembled and it's still surging from cold. I idle down and it dies completely and won't restart. I've run fluids through the fuel line to see if I have any shedding (there is none), so I'm at a loss. I have a new carb on order, but if...

The plug was pretty fouled and looked worn enough to need a replacement. Unfortunately, I'm still getting surges after replacing the plug. I'm also getting backfires when shutting the engine down without throttling back for a minute, so there still might be issues with the carb from what I can tell.

I've got a new fuel filter on it and aired out the fuel lines with compressed air while I was cleaning the tank. I'm REALLY hoping not to have to tear down the carb again. I'll swap out the spark plug next and see if that makes any difference.

OK.. finally got back to fixing the mower today (it's been hell on Earth here in Texas this week) and it seems as though cleaning out the fuel tank and pick up line did the trick for the most part. What I'm seeing now is a surging of the engine when it's running. Any ideas what might be the culprit?

The fuel solenoid connection is at the base of the carb, yes.

Nevermind. I replaced the solenoid after much trial and tribulation and the fuse is still blowing any time I drop the parking brake. Any suggestions?

After 4 seasons of use, my Z335E decided it wanted to blow a fuse every time the engine runs and the parking brake is disengaged. Through diagnosis via instructions found elsewhere, it looks like I have a bad start solenoid. I have a replacement starter solenoid, but I can't for the life of me...
