The connecting rod came loose from the crank. The crank is damaged along with the governor, and of course the rod. While the rod did not go through the block it did put a crack in it.

My 23HP Kohler engine is beyond repair. It has a cv23s spec 75562. It appears that they no longer make a direct replacement engine. Does anyone have any suggestions for an engine that may work?

Checked all connections for corrosion and tightness on both ends and everything looked good. I bypassed the connections with the jumpers and the starter still just engaged and tried to turn the flywheel. I jumped across the solenoid and it will turn over and start.

Thanks both of you for the replies. What you are saying makes sense. I have actually tried the jumper cable on the positive side but not the negative side. I will head over in the morning and try your suggestions.
