I'm on my phone, thought I had posted on the Briggs page. Briggs 331877 089 G5. Didn't see a way to adjust the plastic float tab.

Gas emptied into oil. Changed float valve. Float itself looked good. What's next?

I think I found it. I read that sometimes the carb float or needle sticks and drains fuel into the oil. I had just filled gas tank, and now it is almost empty. Dipstick smells like gas. I will check float and needle, change oil, and try again.

Craftsman LT2000 with single cylinder Briggs Intek 331877 engine. While mowing at full throttle it started smoking heavy white smoke and running very rough and surging, almost stalling. Throttled back to idle and it would run without smoking. Any ideas?

I ran it some more and the oil cleared out. Glad that cam change job is done, took me a long time. Hopefully the new cam ACR will last.

ACR failure

I changed the cam on a 20hp Briggs Intek model 331877-0869-G5. Started it and now it's smoking blue out the exhaust. Ran about 3 or 4 minutes then shut it down. Set the valve clearance to 4 and 6, 1/4 inch after tdc on compression stroke. Oil is at full mark, running 30wt. Pre-lubed pushrods...

Thanks for the replies and ideas. I watched a cam replacement video and the oil sump did not look very deep, meaning the broken pieces could get into some moving parts. Think I'll just get the OEM camshaft and do it right. I just bought the mower for $200 as a no start. It's a 46 inch Craftsman...
