Have you done a compression or leakdown test on the engine?
Disconnect one plug and start the engine. How does it run? Reconnect the first plug and Disconnect the other plug and start the engine. How does it run?
Stihl recommends because it needs it or is that just corporate covering their ass documentation??? I have worked on hundreds of saws over the years and pretty much all running regular gas and i have never seen a saw with preignition damage.
I have 5 chainsaws. 2 of which are running high compression and advanced timing. If you try to start them without using the compression release they break starter pawls. I run regular gas in all of them with zero issues. All the internet mechanics quote the Stihl manual but i am still waiting...
I have a list of things the shop or rather clown with tools did. Wrong plugs, missing screws, broken choke, loose oil filter, didn't change fuel filter.
Is the belt actually shredded? If so it is rubbing something it shouldn't. Is it melting and smell burnt rubber? If so idleror spindle is binding and sropping or belt rubbing someting it shouldn't. One edge of belt chewed up? Idler out of alignment from bad bearings or worn arm pivots.

Here is an example of aftermarket using the wrong measurement. The stens belt is 107" and should be B110. The belt pic is the one that actually fits. The stens is 3 inches short.
