You're not gonna believe this.. the problem appeared to have fixed itself. I worked on other mowers today, went back to this craftsman and voila it started and ran and did not blow the fuse. Engine shut off perfectly. I repeat it 4 times. I must've touched something yesterday.

I will look at the diagram. Im not that experienced in reading them. All the wiring looked really good, as in wasn't touched by anyone. I will look at relay #1. Will let you know if I figured it out. Thank you.

Thanks for replying. I bought the mower with this problem. The ignition switch all 7 posts tested ok with continuity and I did replace it with a known good. Problem still persisted. Craftsman Model 917.273130 SN= 021303A003517

2003 17hp CV490S-27508 Engine starts and runs fantastic. All original. Engine in a Craftsman LT2000. With kill wire connected at coil and new fuse, engine will start and run but will blow the fuse every time. Disconnect kill wire at coil engine starts and runs great too, fuse does not blow...

Finally found it, crank gear timing mark on GXV120 off of a HR214 mower. It was impossible for me to see without magnification on a clear pic. It's at the very base of the tooth.

This came off of a Husq mower with Honda GCV160 manual choke engine. I can't seem to figure out where this spring goes on the control arm of the choke mechanism.
