Striping -- I don't get it!

What's with lawn striping? It looks stupid and to be a waste of time to me. I can't imaging that people would pay any extra to have their lawn striped, would they?

I don't stripe, I prefer a plaid pattern. A little more work but certainly easier than doing a herringbone or paisley. http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/images/smilies/laughing.gif

With a rider, you pretty much need a zero turn machine to do striping. I mow round and round and have to make do with windrows of clippings.
