John Deere height adjustment dial

Hello I have a John Deere X380. The height adjustment dial for the mower deck will not turn down passed the 2 1/4 mark. It feels like it’s hitting something when turning the dial down . It turns all the way up with no problem. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be preventing the height adjustment dial from not turning all the way down Thanks

It sounds like your deck settings are out of sync with your actual cutting height.
Try adjusting the blade height to match your settings.

Thanks I did think about that checked and it seems to be mowing at the 2 and 1/4 mark it’s not going all the way to the lowest setting

So, it's mowing at the 2 1/4 mark?
What is the distance from the ground to the bottom of the blade tips?
I would have to measure but I know that the mowing height is right because I am mowing with it and the height is were I always mow it just doesn’t go below 2 and 1/4 I always mow on 2 and 1/2 in summer this time of year I like to mow on 2 but like I said it won’t go lower than 2 and 1/4 Thank you

The distance from the cutting edge of blade to the flat, level concrete (with air pressure in tires adjusted properly), is the actual cutting height. Without measuring it, you are only guessing. If it is actually at 2.25”, I would leave well enough alone, when the dial is at 2.25”. The real problem is when you are not able to raise the deck to the selected height. Mowing at 2” or 2.5” is crazy low by the way, regardless of what kind of grass you have.

Well the height cam needs to be looked at which will require the deck to be removed. Got to see if it is making a full rotation or not.

Thank you for your comment. Yes I am guessing but the problem is not about the height that I mow my lawn at . The problem is the the height adjustment does not turn all the way to the lowest level and mowing 2and 1/2 inches my lawn is full, lush and green it works for me. Suggested height for mowing grass is 2-3 inches Thanks

Hello so I just wanted to say that I fixed the height cam. There was a black walnut wedged it It took me awhile to get it loose but I got it Took the deck off and reached up under where the dial attacked to the gear in that little hole and got the nut out Wasn’t very easy but at least I didn’t have to take the whole thing apart Works fine now
