Looking at buying a 2011 tigercat with 442hrs on it off of craiglist. Have the guy at $3000. Looks to be in good shape from the pics, but haven't seen it yet as it's about an hours drive. Has the Kawasaki fs 726cc motor in it. Anything in particular to look at when I go over? This is my first zero turn so any input is appreciated. Thanks!

15 years old. Garage kept and maintained, that would be a good deal. Left out in the weather and neglected, forget it.

Craigslist has a lot of scammers lurking around looking for fast money and may not even own what they are advertising.

A group of pictures would help. A service history is even better.

Pics looked good that he sent me, went and looked at it. Was as advertised and was a one owner mower before this guy and he never used it. Was owned by a commercial contractor, but this was for his property and was obviously kept under cover. Seat is perfect, paint is faded, but no major peeling. Only minor issue is some hydraulic leaking from a couple fittings and/or hoses, but it's pretty minor and easily fixed. Forgot to mention it also has a factory grass catcher as well which I have no need for but will be selling. Overall think I found a good deal...only time will be the judge on that though!

Overall most Scag mowers I have owned over the years are solid (FreedomZ, Turf Tiger and now a Tiger Cat 2 w/1360 hrs) if maintained properly. IMHO, can't beat a Kawa engine. I have that same size as a FX691, just did head gaskets on mine (one head gasket leaking when I got it.) and now runs like new!

A couple of things I have learned to watch for:
1.) Check for oil around the cylinder heads (there are inspection port covers). If heads are not kept clean from dirt and grass, it will build up excessive heat and you will need new head gaskets sooner rather than later.
2.) The Hydro oil you see "can" be a fitting issue, but can also be a pump seal issue on the bottom of the Hydro pump. I have rebuilt these pumps (PK), no small feat, but anyone can learn to rebuild the Hydro-Gear pumps via YouTube and parts for many in the series (PG/PK/etc) are readily available. Pack some patience!

Do oil changes every 50hrs, keep air filter clean, chassis lubed and it will treat you well for many years to come. Download the manual for more maintenance info on PTO adjustments and such.
