Electrical problem.

First it was in was for deck hanger complete broken off the deck, No other complaints. Test mowed after repairs without problems.

Yesterday it came back with reports of backfiring and had thrown the deck belt. Customer replaced the deck belt and no more throwing of the belt reported.

Initial test after the customer left.
  • No spark
  • Then spark as the engine started with after firing for a moment.
  • Shut down and it was back to no spark.
  • Thought maybe a safety related issue but disconnect the kill circuit from the mower side even though test indicate it was working.
  • Still no fire
  • Wait a while the engine started but one cylinder this time.
I suspect ignition coil steering diodes failure but will take some more tests after I remove the engine shroud later today after the rain stops. Could even be mice damage.

Isn't intermittent problems fun?

Well if you are retired those problems are "fun" to run down...........if you in it for revenue........makes on GRRRRRRRRRRRR! Good luck!
 
Turned out that electronics in both coils were failing. Actually the epoxy was failing which damaged the electronics. New Kawasaki coils installed.

This is where experience pays off and having the parts on hand don't hurt either. So its back to TT TZT transaxle repair after I get a fan or two for the shop. Shop is hot without the air moving.

That I have seen more than once but this was after the engine was fully heat soaked mowing 2 acres. No rain here; although, there are pop ups showers all around me. A very next morning everything was fine until the engine started getting heat soaked. Shut down (super heating) and then that's when both coils failed. First one then both.

I even had brand new coils to fail after lightning strikes nearby here. One time it was five at one time.

It s nothing like having your hair stand in ends in your own shop as the strike happens. So glad they took out the radio station tower that was attracting so much lightning.
