Why won't this fit a FR600V? Is the intake horn smaller or something?

yes, it will work on the FS/FR600v. you need an adaptor to go from 1.75 on the intake tube to the 2.0 ID of the intake hose. PN Gates 26392

You will need a G057512 or equivalent canister filter I have found as low as $32

The hose I used is a gates 21943 look online or local auto parts store. I found one for $18
If you can not find it than a dayco 71503 will work
Hose clamps for a 2 inch hose and hose clamps for the filter housing 6in
$50 shipped for the bracket (similar to the ones that come in the kits) if you have a FS series I will throw in the riv nuts and screws for free

I installed this kit on my relative’s Hustler’s FR691. Fit was perfect. If I have this engine, I would install this kit for engine longevity.They are out of stock on their website

Bought this bracket from @kipharding mentioned here. Worked great. Shipped quick and looks good. If you're looking to build the kit yourself I can vouch for this mount.
All the parts listed here work well together. I got the gates hose from rock auto for about $20 shipped, the rest was from amazon. Total was about $120 and took maybe 30 minutes to install including cutting the hole in the cover (which you don't have to do; you can leave the cover off. I just like the finished look).

How do you get the lid up enough to undo the clamp if you need to remove the hose for some reason? Also, with the hose being that tight in it, aren't you worried that vibration will start cutting into that hose?

It lifts enough to get to the hose clamp pretty easily. I do plan to trim the cover more to have it fit better. I noticed that as well.
I bought a new one for about $10:00 and kept the one that come on it if I had to take in for service,warranty also cut the hole looks better

I did the same thing on mine. Still gotta trim it a bit.
