Removing the fuel filter

This happens sometimes when a 1/4" fuel line is forced over a 5/16" nipple.

Are you sure this wouln’t compromise my mower? Both the fuel filter and lines are original parts. 21.5 Kawasaki engine.

May not of been meant for me, but the kohler fuel fllter wlll not damage your mower, and may even be a better filter than what is on there now. Have sold many of that exact part number over the years. Have used them on all brands of mowers over the past 28 years.

Thanks! Perhaps, if the tubular ends of the filter you recommend are even a bit smaller in circumference, I can just cut the line on either side of the filter, take it off and still have plenty of slack to hook in the new one. I really don’t want to get into removing the entire gas line. Sound okay?

No

You need to replace the fuel line from tank to carb inlet. Why? Fuel hoses deteriorate from the inside out. You can't see internal damage but maybe on the end.

NO! They are excellent filters. Just make sure that you install it with the arrow pointing towards the carburetor.

Mostly. The nearest station with the good stuff is about 20 miles away!

If the line is so hard you can't remove the filter, I'd replace it. As Slomo said, they deteriorate from the inside out.

Thanks again! It doesn’t seem unusually hard to me. In fact, it’s quite flexible (I realize hardness and flex are different properties), but it seems to me that the filter stems are not only too large in circumference, but also in way too far.
As I said, I couldn’t remove it after the first mowing season. It was presumably like this brand new! You could be right, though. I’ll figure something out. Thanks again.
