HR214 mower runs for 30 seconds then dies and can't be restarted

My HR214 very slowly fired up for a few strokes then died. It did this several times with the lever in the choke position. After pulling out the spark plug and adding a thimble full of gasoline it fired up and ran fine for 30 seconds and then died and couldn't be restarted. The next day it did the same thing. I changed and gapped the spark plug. Drained the gas tank and inspected the gas filter in the gas line at the outlet of the gas tank. Replaced the carburetor. Checked and reset the valve clearance (.004" intake and .006" exh.). The oil looked great so I didn't touch it. After doing all the above the mower still acts the same. Actually, last week (before the above) I was cutting the grass and the mower ran fine for approx. 5 minutes then died, and I finished the job with my backup mower. Any suggestions?

If your new carb solved any fuel issue and the new plug eliminated that possibility, then you are left with the coil as a suspect.
 
Use a cheap syringe and piece of hose that will fit the carburetor fuel. Fill the line and plug it, then see if it will start and run for a little bit until it uses all the fuel up. It should run longer than 30 seconds. From there work your way back up the line and filter to find the blockage.

If it still cuts off, consider a coil problem or the safety kill wire connected to the coil.
 
Problem solved.
While I had the new carburetor installed (which still didn't work), I cleaned out the old carb. I was getting desperate and decided to reinstall the old (cleaned out) carb and again try to start the mower up. Much to my surprise, the mower started right up and ran fine for 3-4 minutes, during which I turned on the power drive and blade to put more load on it. I shut it down and tried to restart it and it fired right up. Apparently the new carburetor was bad (as was the old carburetor before I cleaned it out). I bought the new one on Amazon and it will be returned.
