I'm needing to replace an engine gone bad with a new motor on a Hustler Raptor XL. Have FR651 now and replacing with same. I've been told only that they charge $65 per hour. I trust them, but I would like to have appox time to replace. Trust but verify? Thanks all.

Hello O.,

It helps to have the product ID number off the machine and the engine to better help you. Not all machines are built the same and there is no published labor times for small engine equipment most of the time.

Did they bother to diagnose the engine or was it obvious with a blown connecting rod thru the block?

I ask this because I have been called in on a few "second opinion" situations where there was a bad ignition coil on one, and 2 others with contaminated fuel systems.

If it is an independent shop you are talking to, they are likely better than the dealer shop. Dealer shops usually hire untrained individuals who are simply parts changers.

Are they installing a complete New or used engine?

What kind of warranty?
 
At $65 an hour that has to be an independent shop. Dealers are double or more than that yet have no experienced techs. Funny how that works out. The crooks get overpaid and do lousy work, while the honest ones are scraping by to get honest work.
