Starting issues with my MTD tractor

I have a 2003 MTD Garden Tractor , model MTD 13AN693G118. Having issues with starting the mower

If I turn the key to start, all I get is a single click at the starter. I first thought it was the battery but if I jump the solenoid, the engine turns over.

The only safety switch that is connected is for the brake and if I do not depress the pedal, I do not receive a click sound. So I’m sure that safety switch is good.

I checked the fuse by the solenoid and it was good.

If I cross the solenoid, the engine turns over but won’t start so I think it is still wiring related.

Thoughts?

Wow, that's a great source. But is it an original one? for $57.17. Usually bought parts from Napa and Fridayparts. Next time, I would try. Thanks for sharing.

At this age, original is no longer available. Original parts are usually supplied by sources outside of the factory assembly plant. INDAK is a common supplier of ignition switches for many rider models.

A good multimeter would help with testing for confirmation.

Chickanic on You Tube has a good video of how to test many switches

Probably the solenoid.

It does sounds a bad solenoid. The reason when you jump the solenoid and I assuming you mean the two large posts it cranks but not start is likely because no one is on the seat.

Here is the pin out and make/break for the ignition switch

Thanks for all your suggestions. Just to let you know, I was sitting on the seat when jumping the solenoid. Lol

I found both of those items on Amazon for a total of $27.56. Shipped overnight. Prime. Going to find out which ones at fault.
