I have a Gravely ZTX 52 Model 918011. The left control arm control would not engage button to start. When manually pressed machine would start with control arms out. When bringing arms in it would die for the right control arm. We manually held down the buttons with a zip tie and it started. But now when you put the blades in gear it dies. I do not quite understand why? I have trouble with those control arm safety buttons before. How can I fix this problem the right way?

I also think there is a seat switch or seat switch wiring issue. These safety switches rely on each other to be engage or disengaged depending on operations.
Tying the lever switch down will not allow the deck to operate, that is why they are designed that way.
Don't forget about a parking brake switch interrupting the operations.
No safety switch can ever be circumvented or bypassed, they are vital to protect the operator and others that may attempt to use the mower. Fix it correctly or find someone who can.

The LH switch is worn out. Normally they make before fully depressed but as the contacts burn they has to depress more toward fully depress. Also the plunger do wear out too. Just replace the switch and problem be resolved for the first problem as long as you remove the zip ties. And maybe even the second one. Too bad of a headache here right now to study the wiring diagram any further.

Rechecked the seat switch and reattached the component and it worked. It confused me that when we depressed a safety button the mower would start. I thought that if one safety switch was not working correctly it would not start. Thanks again for everyone's help on this problem. I read this forum all the time and it is a great help to further my DIY'er skills.

Other than a few brands such as Kubota the seat switch is not part of the start circuit. Only the parking brake, controls levers on z turns and the pto switch. The seat switch comes into play if you engage the pto, release the parking brake, or pull the direction levers inward to move the mower, and you are not detected in the seat.
