If you can't get the exact engine information no one can help you. There are fairly easy changes that can be made, but the crankshaft dimensions are critical.
Around this horsepower range is when they changed from a 1-inch shaft diameter to a 1-1/8-inch shaft diameter. That is also when a swap can become very expensive.
My advice would be to find a good similar B&S engine.

We will need the mower's model number off the serial number tag to see what originally came with. Now if the engine has been we also need the model and spec numbers off the engine. As said there is a 1" and 1-1/8" crankshaft PTO end involved.
