Will the operating engine vacuum keep the choke open?

I have the wrong carb that requires a manual switch to operate the choke for my push mower vs the bubble pump action of the mower so I figure I can just rig a makeshift switch but I wonder if it can be one way choke-closed and let vacuum open it. Got me?

The choke is manually operated by linkage on most machines. The vacuum of the engine has nothing to do with it. Get the correct carburetor and quit trying to rig the wrong one. Gees!
 
Hey man, that's some creative thinking right there. I see what you're trying to do.
To answer your question, no, the engine vacuum won't open the choke for you. The choke plate is usually too heavy and isn't designed to be moved by air like that.
I've been down that road before, trying to make a wrong part fit on my old tiller. I think your idea of rigging a simple manual cable to the handle is probably your best bet if you want to make that carb work.
Honestly, sometimes it's just easier to get the right part in the first place and save the headache.

And there the extra expense for parts for experimentation. That carburetor is meant to operate off a thermal control on the muffler which means a new muffler and linkages.

Getting the correct part is much easier besides if you haven't fueled that choke carburetor you always put it on eBay or Facebook marketplace for sale.
 
Well it's not "heavy" at least to my finger and so far so good. My choke switch is flimsy as heck lol but works!

Just wow, I mean technically you rigged up something by #1 putting a hole in your gas tank 2. Your "switch" is resting on what is the bastard cousin of the coat rack. So, I'm curious to see it actually function while running, I would venture a guess that your "switch" will probably vibrate off it's perch and your going to have to pull it out wherever it lands by the dental floss (provided the dental floss nor the leaking gas has come into contact with a hot surface yet). I definitely can appreciate the creativity and relate to getting the wrong part and making it work if necessary but sometimes you guys take a step back, take a deep breath and a minute to reevaluate what your time and effort are personally valued at, sometimes we get tunnel vision with a plan or expected outcome and end up losing a lot of hours of our lives that would have been spent better on something else, or customers, or spending a lot more money than if would have if not so married to one idea and had changed strategies much sooner. Good luck, post a video of it running if you don't mind (and with the gas thank mostly full).
