Can anyone confirm crankshaft stub size on the 10hp engine as 1 inch dia x 3 inches long and keyed???
It's on a Snapper RER.

I have a 8 horse Briggs with a 1 inch diameter x 3 inch long keyed shaft as a possible replacement engine is why I ask.

I would have posted in the Briggs engine section but could not find such.

Pretty sure you referring to the PTO end.

498994 Crankshaft 1" x 3-5/32" with a 1/4" Keyway that is 2-11/16". It is also tapped at 7/16-20 1" deep.

Hi Forest#2,

A common conversion is usually switching out a tired 8HP for a newer 10HP or even a 12HP. I don't think going the other direction is an issue.

The crank PTO end dimensions were normally the same.

A critical factor in the swap is making sure the mount holes are the same, so the crankshaft is properly centered, and the height adjustment of the crank mounted friction disc is set correctly.
