2018 Toro With B&S motor. Quit as though you shut if off with a key as opposed to sputtering to a stop like lack of fuel. I have checked for fuel(good), replaced the plug, replaced the CDI with a new B&S unit and the small wire that runs to it the ground(?) I still have no spark. Disconnected the "ground(?) to the CDI, still no spark, checked the air gap(.006). I'm pretty good with engines but this one has me stopped cold. Seems simple but....
This was a two pull to start motor until now. Now it's no start period

First, check to see if you may have installed the coil upside down. Second, set the air gap at .010”. Check for spark with kill wire off, if spark attach kill wire and test again. Report back findings, with unit model and serial numbers.

If the coil was bought through Amazon, it is likely a dud. Aftermarket parts are a crapshoot these days.

Need to know the numbers on the engine valve cover or etched into the side of the main block.

Coil is installed correctly. Will reset air gap to .010. What effect does the air gap have on the CDI working(or not). Have disconnected the kill wire to effect.

no numbers on the valve cover. "tag" on the engine states it's engine 104m020131f1, serial 1903144832936. Is there a way to test a CDI unit?. The part was bought through Amazon, but came in what appears to be a legit B&S box, but who knows. Do you have a site that you purchase B&S parts from that work?

CDI unit? That is a fancy technical term for ignition coil.

A simple test to check for ignition fire is to remove the plug and ground the metal end against the block, then have a helper slowly pull the start rope while you watch for spark. If you have a bright blue spark, the coil is working.

An adjustable spark tester also works very well. The flash bulb type ignition testers are a gimmick and unreliable.

Was to coil installed upside down? It is a simple mistake that will still show spark, but it is literally out of time with the piston and valve operations. Also, aftermarket coils have been known to be internally wound backwards before and that will keep a person guessing.

Was anything struck on the ground when the mower suddenly stopped? If so, the flywheel key could be sheared and that will throw off spark timing.

Grounded the plug. No spark. disconnected the "kill" wire. No spark. Coil installed correctly. It's marked"out". I don't think you could make the electrical connections if it were installed upside down. Didn't hit anything. Will try and check the crankshaft keyway, it's a long shot but who knows.
