Need help weed eater mower

Nope, metal. Got new one, compared to old one and all is same. Previous post suggested that gasket was not sealing/ to tight; put new gasket on and get same results. Just a hobby I got to fix and sell but this one has me puzzle.
On that mower it is common for the air filter backing plate to warp and not seal between the aif filter housing and the carb. which has to seal for the primer to work. the fix isn't to replace the gasket. the fix in most cases is to double gasket it. Try removing the air filter and looking into the carb while pushing the primer you should see gas squirt up from the bottom of the carb venturi from the emulsion tube. No gas then primer not working and won't start cold.

Just tried suggestion. Double gasket, new primer bulb. No gas from emulsion tube. Bad carb?

Then again, if carb faulty, why would it run fine when started with carb cleaner/ starter fluid....

I think the answer to your question about running it on carb cleaner would be the fact that you're introducing fuel (carb cleaner/starter fluid) directly into the air passage where the fuel (petrol/gas) isn't getting to.
Have you cleaned the jets thoroughly and blown all passages out on the carb?
Also, may be worth soaking the carb in some cleaner overnight to help it soak/penetrate.

Hi Craig, this is a new carb, right out of the box. Will look at the jets , didn't think I would need to. Thanks

Fair play, if it's new, it 'should' get fuel through it...
Have you tried the carb off the engine, just hooked up to a bottle of fuel or something to check that the bowl is filling with fuel?
Have you accidentally messed around with the float valve as it may be shutting off before fuel can get high enough?

I've just re read the op, so it will run fine, its getting it started that's the problem?
Ans the new carb is causing the same issue as the old one?

Doubling the gasket doesn't work. As I said look the installed gasket and you will see on one side where there an area of non contact. This where a wedge shape gasket is applied on carb side on the gasket to apply additional pressure. Center of wedge is the full thinkness of the second gasket and then thins to zero on each each. A little wood glue hold the gaskets together until bond under pressure together. Once the wedge gasket is made you tighten the two retaining screws just enough to get the primer to shoot gas out the nozzle in the center of the carb throat.

Hint > you will need razor blade perferable a backbone version to make the wedge.

This thing was shot when I got it. Old carb beyond cleaning/ not worth the time. Think will have to try gasket trick as per Star Tech. Let you know when it gets warmer down here... working outside.
