2015 Craftsman T2200 Transaxle Leak

Hello, I'm new to owning a riding mower, but I'm trying to learn as I go. Today after mowing I noticed the rear axles coming from the transaxle had gobs of grease on them, is this something I should be concerned about?

You have the General Transmission RS800F transaxle. The axle seal needs replacing. Husqvarna PN 587086401 (superseded to 590100301); General Transmissions PN GT41857-B. Only the seal affect needs replacing but can be. They are between 5-6 usd each plus local tax.

The seal(s) can be replaced without removal of the transaxle. Common sense clean up prior to replacement is necessary. Wrap the output shaft with electrical tape to prevent the new seal being damaged during installation. Remove tape before re-installing the wheel. Once replaced drive the mower around for about 30 minutes and then check the bottom of the transaxle unit. It should be warm but not hot. The amount of grease present will appear worst than it is actually is. Here is an example of one that I repaired that didn't need any grease added back. Hopefully yours is not this messy. Grease can be added but only if necessary.
