Craftsman 917256543 transaxle blew

Wow... clearing snow today like a boss with the snowthrower attachment, until.. transaxle blew apart. Knocked the bottom right out of the casing. Sears no longer sells (See item 1 in this diagram http://www.searspartsdirect.com/Craftsman-Riding-mower-tractor-Parts/Model-917256543/0247/1509200/10041607/00003.html .)

Any suggestions?

Y'know, I just added about 90 lbs of weight on the back. I had wheel weights and chains, but was still having traction problems. Think maybe I overdid it? :confused2:

I think I lucked out. Found a 6-speed transaxle locally for $60. It's a Spicer 161451, but it looks interchangeable with my exploded Spicer 145607. At least that's what this guy says: Craftsman Spicer 6 Speed Transaxle 4360 97 145607 Good Working Part | eBay

It fit fine. All set for now.

With that much weight, I suspect you will be replacing it again, maybe sooner than you would like.

sounds like a good exquise to buy a garden tractor, 25 hp.
