Old 14" Toro red paddle type

I am fixing up a 14" Toro snow blower because it is light weight and free. I
put on a float type carb and gas shoots out of the vent hole. I know there is
an extra spring on some 2 cycle floats. Has anyone had any experience in
converting these older red ipaddle types to float carbs? I don't like those
diaphragm carbs because they tend to leak much more than float carbs do.

It sounds like your needle is not seating quite right so it is letting gas get by and going out the over flow

Yes, That is why I mentioned the extra spring on the float that is not present on mine. Has anyone tried a float carb on this type engine? I know there are newer 2 cycle snow blowers that use float carbs, What are the differences?
Or is there just no way to use a float carb on this older engine? I can find a spring and try that or hopefully someone has tried this already and lets me know the results.

idk I have not tried changing carbs before if you have to much of a problem you are going to have to put a
diaphram carb back on

I am going to try a different float carb with the float spring. If that does not work then I go back to the diaphragm type.
I will post back with results when done.

Over the years the gas formulation changes and is not good for diaphragms and other rubber parts. Floats are the way, IMO. Possibly affixing a suction type carb that does not have a diaphragm will work???
