Re: Hello, from a new owner of a Hustler Raptor SD 60

...Curious to see what if any consensus is regarding oil viscosity, brand, and whether synthetic or not.
Interested to hear about filters too.
And of course blades.

Welcome to the forum. I did my first oil change on recommendation of the dealer SAE30 for the summers here in Illinois. I did buy the rather expensive Kawasaki branded oil, but maybe not next time. If you look at the manual it has all the oils & temp ranges. Oil always stirs up a debate akin to politics!

That wasn't a bad choice...the Kawasaki brand oil is obviously what came in it for the break-in period so it will be just fine. I was going to do the same thing, but decided to stick with the brand I've used for over 20 years(Briggs & Stratton SAE30) and it served my lawn equipment fine. The B & S is relatively inexpensive and available about anywhere(WalMart & Lowes for instance). My Gravely mechanic assured me that it would keep my engine warranty intact. Any reputable brand of SAE30 should work OK.

P.S.
To all other users, user RetiredGuns and I are simply discussing SAE30 conventional oil brands.....NO NEED to start a Multi-viscosity vs. Single-viscosity or Conventional vs. Synthetic debate:0)

Checking in:

Just purchased a new Raptor SD 48" with 23 HP Kawasaki engine. After spending a considerable amount of time researching the seemingly endless selection of ZTM's, I think I made a wise choice. The Hustler brand is tried and tested, the construction of the machine is robust, and the Kawasaki engine was the icing on the cake. Look forward to many years of reliable service from my investment.

I'm really enjoying the Raptor. While I liked my Cub tractor, mowing with a ZT is so easy. Also love the sound of the Kawa. Sounds like a motorcycle at idle.

I've had a Hustler Fastrak for the better part of a year now, and it has replaced most of my John Deere lawn and garden tractors. The thing is a beast when it comes to cutting grass. I have found NOTHING that compares to it. Mine has the 20HP Honda engine and the 52" deck, I can cut 2 1/2 acres in just over an hour. And it does a beautiful job of it. I'm totally sold on it.

Hi, everyone, I have owned a Hustler Fastrak 44 for almost 9 years. I mow about three acres with it. In all the time I have owned it, other than normal maintenance, I have replaced the drive belt at the beginning of this summer. It has the Honda 18 horse engine. These things are bulletproof.

Hey everybody. Recently bought a nice used 10' Hustler Z4 60" deck with 27 hp Kaw. It runs and rides super nice. My only complaint is it doesn't have as good of a cut as my old Turf Tiger did.

Good looking mower. I'm a big fan of hustler. If you don't mind telling us, what did you get it for?
